Khanh Hoa orders action after complaints over sparse preschool meals

Authorities in Khanh Hoa province have ordered corrections at a private preschool after images circulated online showing what appeared to be unusually small portions of meat and eggs in children’s meals.

The Dien Dien commune People’s Committee said on Sept. 8 that it had formed a task force to inspect Sen Hong Private Preschool. The images showed a bowl of minced-meat banh canh with quail eggs that consisted largely of noodles and had no accompanying food, according to the reports. Other meals, including garlic-butter fried chicken and meatballs, were also described as sparse.

The local authority said the images had been posted by a teacher at the school after she was informed that her employment would end. The inspection team verified the incident and prepared a record at the school.

After the inspection, officials assessed that the nutritional quality of the children’s meals did not meet requirements. Dien Dien authorities ordered the school to correct its meal provision and said they would conduct a comprehensive inspection of preschool kitchens across the area. Violations would be dealt with strictly, they said, to protect children’s health.
