Kia to build EV3 electric SUV in Mexico

Kia is launching production of its new EV3 all-electric SUV at its plant in Pesquería, Nuevo León, Mexico. This move makes Mexico the first country outside of Korea where Kia will assemble a fully electric vehicle, highlighting the country's importance in the company's global electrification strategy.

The production is part of a significant $649 million investment aimed at enhancing the plant's industrial and technological capabilities. This investment also supports Kia's transition to more sustainable manufacturing processes. Initiatives include installing a solar panel park with an initial capacity of 2 megawatts, projected to expand to 8 megawatts by 2030, and a new wastewater treatment plant designed to recycle approximately 70% of the water used in industrial processes.

Kia is also committed to developing Mexico's electric mobility ecosystem. The company plans to collaborate with commercial partners to install electric vehicle charging stations in key locations such as shopping centers, universities, and dealerships. This effort aims to encourage the adoption of electric mobility among Mexican consumers.

The EV3 is a subcompact electric SUV designed for families, boasting an estimated range of up to 605 kilometers under the WLTP cycle. Its design follows Kia's "Opposites United" philosophy. The model will also be the first Kia vehicle to feature the new Kia Connect connected services platform. Pre-orders are currently open until August 13, 2026, with first deliveries scheduled for August 6.
