KL City FC awaits FIFA's green light to register new players

Kuala Lumpur City (KL City) FC is on the verge of having a FIFA-imposed transfer ban lifted, paving the way for the registration of new players. Sources within the club indicate that all outstanding salary arrears owed to former players have been settled, with the necessary funds already transferred.

The club is now awaiting official confirmation from FIFA to have their name removed from the list of banned entities. This process was reportedly delayed due to a minor issue where one former player did not receive the payment initially, attributed to an incorrect account number. This administrative hiccup has since been rectified, and all payment-related matters are now considered resolved.

Previously, the lingering transfer ban had cast a shadow over KL City, preventing them from registering the required number of players. This situation directly led to their forfeiture of a Super League match against Negeri Sembilan FC, resulting in a walkover and a RM50,000 fine imposed by the Malaysian Football League (MFL). The MFL cited KL City's failure to manage player registration procedures in a timely manner.

KL City currently has a severely depleted squad, with only 12 eligible players available for registration. This includes 10 local players and two foreign players, with two of them reportedly injured. The club's management, including Chairman Syed Yazid Syed Omar, had previously urged the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to intervene and request FIFA to remove KL City from the transfer ban list.
