Knife attack: Unknown assailant attacks festival-goers – eight injured

Eight people sustained injuries at a village festival in Egling, Germany, after an unknown assailant attacked attendees with a knife. The perpetrator remains on the run, prompting a police investigation that includes reviewing video recordings and questioning witnesses.

The incident occurred at a festival attended by approximately 700 people. Police are investigating charges of assault, with the motive for the attacks remaining unclear. However, authorities have stated they do not believe it to be an act of terrorism.

Simon Raß, the head of the organizing club, expressed shock, describing the event as usually "cozy" and lamenting its tragic end. He noted that the atmosphere was good until the knife attack occurred shortly before midnight. The first reported assault involved the attacker hitting a 24-year-old man in the head, then injuring his 16-year-old friend with a knife on the forearm as the first victim fell.

The attacker then targeted other festival-goers before fleeing. Police were alerted around 11:45 p.m. In total, eight individuals required medical attention, with some transported to hospitals. Media reports suggest some victims underwent surgery for injuries including broken bones.

A large contingent of police and rescue services, including a special unit from Munich, responded to the scene. The festival, which was scheduled to continue until early morning, was canceled. Raß confirmed that security personnel were present and that safety concepts were followed.
