Knife attacker shot by police after injuring officer in Istanbul

A police officer was injured after being attacked with a knife on Namık Kemal Street in Istanbul's Aksaray neighborhood. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. when a suspect, identified as M.B., approached traffic police officer G.Ç. under the pretense of asking a question.

Suddenly, M.B. attacked the officer with a knife. Officer G.Ç. managed to step back, sustaining minor injuries. He then issued a 'stop' command, but the suspect did not comply. The officer shot the suspect in both knees, leading to his apprehension after a pursuit.

Medical teams were dispatched to the scene. M.B., reportedly a Moroccan national, was found to be in possession of a quantity of drugs during a search. Both the injured police officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The officer's injuries are not life-threatening.

CCTV footage captured the attack, showing M.B. approaching the officer, asking something, and then suddenly attacking with a knife. The video also shows the suspect turning towards another officer and being shot in the leg.
