Kogi governor gifts N20,000 each to 1,490 corps members

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, has presented a financial gift of N20,000 to each of the 1,490 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state. The total donation amounts to N29.8 million, intended to support the corps members with transportation and other immediate necessities as they begin their primary assignments.

The governor made the donation during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II NYSC Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba. Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe, Governor Ododo reiterated his administration's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for youth development and empowering young people to contribute to the state's socio-economic progress.

Governor Ododo encouraged the corps members to integrate responsibly into their host communities. He urged them to utilize the knowledge and skills acquired during their orientation to support community development initiatives. "This administration would continue to strengthen and add value to youth empowerment initiatives aimed at improving productivity, self-reliance and the overall development of young people in the state," he stated.

He further charged the corps members to act as catalysts for positive change by sharing their expertise with community members and contributing to projects that enhance local lives. The governor also assured them of his administration's commitment to their safety and welfare throughout their service year and appealed to host communities to provide a supportive environment. The Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Chris Tochi, expressed appreciation for the governor's consistent support, highlighting his donations of food items and financial assistance.
