Kosovo and Turkey sign a 200 million lira agreement to strengthen KBS capabilities

In a significant move underscoring the robust strategic partnership between Kosovo and Turkey, Defense Ministers from both nations have inked a crucial military-financial cooperation agreement. This pact, valued at 200 million Turkish lira, is poised to significantly bolster the capabilities and professional advancement of the Kosovo Security Forces (KBS).

Today, together with the Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Yaşar Güler, we signed the Agreement on Military-Financial Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Government of the Republic of Turkey.

Ejup Maqedonci, Kosovo's acting Minister of Defense, hailed the agreement as a clear testament to the strong, collaborative relationship between our two countries. He emphasized that the Turkish government's support will be instrumental in enhancing the KBS's institutional and professional growth. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening ties and working together for regional peace and stability.

In this context, the Government of the Republic of Turkey will support the Government of the Republic of Kosovo with 200,000,000.00 TL (two hundred million Turkish lira), with the aim of strengthening the capacities of the Kosovo Security Forces and their further institutional and professional improvement.

This agreement is not an isolated event but a key component of Kosovo's comprehensive strategy to modernize and expand its security forces. In recent years, Kosovo has actively pursued strategic partnerships with key allies, including the United States, Turkey, Albania, and Croatia. These alliances are vital for enhancing our defense capabilities, modernizing equipment, and increasing our operational readiness.

This cooperation clearly reflects the high level of our relations and our common will to further improve them in the service of peace and stability.

While international partners, particularly NATO members like Turkey, offer crucial support, it's important to note how such developments are perceived regionally. Serbia, for instance, often views these strengthening ties with suspicion. However, from Kosovo's perspective, these partnerships are essential for safeguarding our sovereignty and contributing to a more secure Balkan region. The ongoing acquisition of advanced weaponry and participation in international military exercises demonstrate our unwavering commitment to building a capable and professional security force.
