Kyiv Hit by Large-Scale Russian Ballistic Missile Attack

Kyiv endured a significant Russian assault, with ballistic missiles striking multiple areas of the city, including the Obolon, Svyatoshyn, Desnianskyi, and Holosiyiv districts. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported damage in at least seven locations by 2:10 AM local time.

In the Holosiyiv district, two individuals were rescued from the rubble of a collapsed warehouse. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko stated that search and rescue operations were ongoing, with fears that more people might be trapped beneath the debris. Fires broke out in a 20-story residential building in the Obolon district following a missile impact. Additional fires were reported at two warehouses, and another residential building was also ignited. In the Desnianskyi district, a warehouse caught fire, and missile debris fell near a residential building, according to Klitschko. A large fire also erupted in the Svyatoshyn district, outside the city limits.

Journalists in Kyiv reported hearing powerful explosions shortly after 00:20 AM local time, indicating a ballistic missile attack. The capital continued to shake from explosions for another hour. Ukraine's Air Force had repeatedly issued warnings about ballistic missiles heading towards Kyiv, followed by alerts about drones starting at 01:09 AM local time. Klitschko urged residents to remain in shelters.

This latest attack occurred just days after another large-scale Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv on August 1, which killed at least nine people and injured over 30.
