Labour Party sets presidential nomination form at ₦50 million, offers Otti free nomination

The Labour Party is gearing up for the 2027 general elections by announcing its primary election timetable and the associated costs for aspirants. The party has set a significant benchmark for presidential hopefuls, requiring a combined ₦50 million for expression of interest and nomination forms. This move, detailed by National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa, reflects a strategic approach to fundraising and candidate selection, aligning with constitutional and electoral guidelines.

For the presidential race, aspirants are to pay ₦10 million for the expression of interest form and ₦40 million for the nomination form, bringing the total to ₦50 million.

While the fees are substantial, the party has also incorporated measures to ensure inclusivity. Concessions are offered to women, youth aged 25-30, and persons with disabilities, who will only need to pay for the expression of interest forms. This gesture aims to broaden participation and encourage a diverse range of candidates to step forward.

A notable exception is Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who has been granted both forms free of charge.
