Lagos moves to curb dispatch riders’ crashes with safety campaign

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced an intensification of efforts aimed at curbing these incidents, recognizing the vital role these riders play in the city's logistics while prioritizing their safety and that of other road users.

There are plans to convene a stakeholders’ engagement with courier service operators and riders to promote strict adherence to safety regulations.

LASTMA's strategy involves a multi-pronged approach. A key initiative is the planned stakeholders' engagement, which will bring together courier service operators and the riders themselves. This forum is designed to foster a shared commitment to safety, encouraging strict adherence to traffic regulations and promoting a culture where personal well-being is as important as timely deliveries. Such collaborative efforts are crucial in a dynamic urban environment like Lagos, where the sheer volume of traffic demands constant vigilance and cooperation.

Beyond direct engagement with riders, LASTMA continues its commitment to long-term road safety education through its advocacy programs. The agency's outreach to schools aims to instill a sense of responsibility and awareness among young people, shaping future road users into safer and more conscientious individuals. By reaching approximately 38-39% of Lagos schools between January and March, LASTMA is making a significant impact in embedding road safety principles from an early age.
