Landslide Buries Machinery at Thai Nguyen Quarry

A significant landslide struck the Nà Cà quarry in Cẩm Giàng commune, Thái Nguyên province, late on April 19th, burying a substantial amount of heavy machinery. The incident, which occurred around 11 PM, saw hundreds of cubic meters of earth and rock cascade down from the mountain's peak, engulfing excavators, crushers, and drilling equipment. Local residents reported hearing a thunderous noise followed by the rumble of falling rocks. Authorities estimate that approximately 250,000 cubic meters of material were dislodged. The damage to the machinery alone is estimated to exceed 8 billion VND. Fortunately, the timing of the landslide, after the workday had concluded, meant there were no human casualties. The quarry, which has been inactive since August 2015, was in the process of having new equipment installed for an upcoming resumption of operations. The heavy rainfall in the preceding days is believed to have been a contributing factor. Local authorities have cordoned off the area and are warning residents to avoid landslide-prone zones and remain cautious of unusual weather patterns.
