Large forest fire forces campsite evacuation in the Netherlands

Firefighters were dispatched to the De Rosmolen nature reserve near Oostrum village in the Netherlands to combat a significant forest fire that sent massive plumes of smoke into the sky. The blaze, located in a wooded area between Venlo and Nijmegen, prompted immediate action to contain its spread.

Due to the poor air quality caused by the smoke, a nearby campsite housing approximately 300 holidaymakers was evacuated as a precautionary measure. The thick smoke created hazardous conditions, necessitating the removal of people from the area.

In response to the fire, firefighters worked to establish a firebreak in the forest, creating a barrier to prevent the flames from advancing further. The Dutch military also provided support by deploying a firefighting helicopter to assist in aerial water-dropping operations. Rail traffic between Nijmegen and Venray was temporarily halted as firefighters operated close to the railway tracks.
