LASU graduates 20,604 students, with 494 earning First Class honors

Lagos State University (LASU) is set to confer degrees on 20,604 students during its 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies, covering the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. A significant number, 494 students, are expected to graduate with First Class honors.

Of the 7,621 students who graduated from the First Degree programmes in the 2024/2025 session, 262 came out with First Class honours, 106 with Unclassified (MBBS/BDS) Degrees. 3,155 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 3,439 with Second Class Lower Division, 622 with Third Class and 37 with a pass.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello announced the figures during a press briefing detailing the convocation activities. The university will also bestow honorary doctorate degrees upon prominent figures, including Alhaji Aliko Dangote for Entrepreneurship, Industrial & Human Capital Development; Mr. Akin Kekere-Ekun for Entrepreneurship Finance Management; and Mrs. Harriet-Ann Omobola (Bola) Adesola for Corporate Finance and Governance.

I am delighted to announce that Ayilara Lawal Olawale of the Project Management Department with a CGPA of 4.96 (First Class Honours) is our overall best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session.

For the 2024/2025 session, 7,621 students are graduating from First Degree programs, with 262 achieving First Class honors. Ayilara Lawal Olawale from the Project Management Department, with a CGPA of 4.96, is the overall best graduating student for this session. The 2025/2026 session sees 8,653 First Degree graduates, including 232 with First Class honors. Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of the Aerospace Engineering Department, achieving a CGPA of 4.97, is the best graduating student for this session.

Of the 8,653 students who graduated from the First Degree programmes 232 came out with First Class honours, 3,545 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4,157 with Second Class Lower Division, 678with Third Class and 31 with a pass.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello, nearing the end of her five-year tenure, also reported that 1,508 students will receive academic master's degrees, 900 professional master's, 618 postgraduate diplomas, 238 academic PhDs, and 119 professional doctorates. The convocation ceremonies will feature a lecture titled “From LASU to the World: Harnessing the Nigerian Diaspora as the 7th Region for National Development,” to be delivered by Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
