Latvia Forms Thematic Committee for Rail Baltica Project with 10 Government Members

Latvia has officially established a thematic committee dedicated to the "Rail Baltica" railway project, bringing together 10 members of the government. Chaired by Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, the committee's primary objective is to facilitate inter-sectoral consultations and ensure coordinated, systematic, and financially viable progress for the ambitious infrastructure initiative.

The committee's mandate includes tackling complex inter-departmental issues, pinpointing obstacles hindering the project's advancement, and formulating strategic proposals for their resolution. Its members represent key ministries, including foreign affairs, climate and energy, finance, transport, defense, justice, and regional development, reflecting the project's broad impact.

Furthermore, the committee holds the authority to evaluate necessary legal and institutional adjustments and to review Latvia's position concerning relevant European Union legislation, inter-state agreements, and funding arrangements. Before any proposals are presented to the Cabinet of Ministers, the committee will strive to reach conceptual agreements on various aspects of the "Rail Baltica" project, such as implementation scenarios, phasing, and technical specifications. The committee is expected to convene at least once a month to maintain momentum on this critical European infrastructure link.
