Latvia Repairs Over 60 Road Sections, Warns of Significant Travel Delays

Latvian State Roads (Latvijas Valsts ceļi) is currently carrying out extensive repair work on more than 60 sections of the country's road network. The company is urging drivers to plan their journeys carefully, anticipating traffic restrictions and increased travel times.

Major disruptions are anticipated on key national highways. On the Daugavpils highway (A6), specifically between Gospori and Nīcgale, drivers will encounter a traffic light-controlled section with speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h, estimated to add 40 minutes to travel time. Another section on the A6, from Kalnišķi to Ļūbaste, will have speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h, requiring an additional 25 minutes to traverse. The Daugavpils bypass (A14) and the section leading to Svente will feature two traffic light-controlled segments with speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h, adding an estimated 30 minutes to journeys.

Several regional roads are also undergoing significant repairs. The Cēsis–Vecpiebalga–Madona road (P30) between Vecpiebalga and Madona has two repair sections with traffic lights and speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h, expected to take about 30 minutes in total. The Gulbene–Balvi–Viļaka–Russian border road (P35) from Litenes to Balvi will have six traffic light-controlled sections with a 50 km/h speed limit, requiring an estimated 45 minutes to pass. The Bauska–Aizkraukle road (P87) from Ozolaine to Bārbele has two traffic light sections with speed limits ranging from 30 to 60 km/h; the section near Ozolaine is closed to transit traffic, with a local detour available, adding about 30 minutes to travel time.

Other affected regional roads include the Ilmāja–Priekule–Lithuanian border road (P114) from Priekule to the Lithuanian border, featuring four traffic light sections and a 50 km/h speed limit, adding 35 minutes. The Tukums–Ķesterciems–Mērsrags–Kolka road (P131) from Tukums to Ķesterciems will have speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h, taking approximately 22 minutes. Additionally, two sections of the Tīnūži–Koknese road (P80) are under repair: one near the Krape intersection, adding about 30 minutes, and another between Kranciems quarry and Avārijas brigādes park, with speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h and an estimated travel time of 45 minutes.
