Li Mingxuan Registers Taipei Council Bid, Says Shen Po-yang Speaks ‘Alien Language’

Li Mingxuan registered her candidacy for a Taipei City Council seat on Monday, accompanied by Sean Lien, chairman of the Kuomintang’s Central Evaluation Committee presidium. The Kuomintang candidate for the Songshan-Xinyi district said she had earned a place near the top of some early public-opinion assessments, but that the attention made her nervous.

Li rejected the idea that she could rely on a guaranteed base of support. She said the campaign would depend on her own effort, built step by step. She also warned that she could not relax while facing what she called the Democratic Progressive Party government’s arrogance, the hardships endured by Taiwan’s people, and the strong challenge from Shen Po-yang, whom she referred to as Taipei’s “bird king.”

Li attacked Shen’s criticism of Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, saying Shen boasts about answering questions from “BCD” through “Z.” She countered that many people felt he was speaking an alien language, answering in the sequence “ㄅㄆㄇㄈ” and believing himself to be outstanding.

Lien joined the criticism, saying most Taipei residents could not understand what Shen was saying, what direction he wanted to take the city, or what he hoped to do for it. “If Shen unfortunately goes to work at Taipei City Hall, he will turn Taipei into a Bluebird paradise,” Lien said, warning that ordinary residents would fear being targeted, labeled as pro-China, or subjected to political witch-hunts. Lien also defended Chiang after the mayor’s eldest son gave up an application for a publicly funded exchange program. He said the mayoral candidate was Chiang Wan-an, not the teenager, and called attacks on politicians’ family members “very immoral and very bad.” Li said she was not worried about whether the Kuomintang and Taiwan People’s Party could cooperate, calling the partnership a majority view and describing Songshan-Xinyi as a good example of blue-white cooperation. She said the two camps should learn from the painful collapse of their cooperation in 2024 and work together to maximize their chances in future elections.
