Lila Downs seeks volunteers to change the world at the Camino de Santiago finish line

Mexican singer Lila Downs brought her powerful voice and message of global change to the iconic Plaza de la Quintana in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Performing on July 25, 2026, Downs, a Tlaxiaco native, used her music to advocate for women's strength, youth education, and the power of love and unity.

Her concert, titled 'Cambias mi mundo' (You Change My World), served as a direct call to action for the younger generation, highlighting education as the key to transformation. Downs, also an anthropologist, champions the dignity of indigenous peoples and feminism, urging the audience to approach peace with an open heart, stating that it "cannot be so difficult."

This performance marked a significant moment for Downs in Spain, where she first played in 2002. She recently received a lifetime achievement award for her work in cultural fusion at the La Mar de Músicas festival. The concert featured a diverse repertoire, including cumbia, Oaxacan son, and popular hits like 'Zapata se queda' and 'La Llorona.' Despite a pre-concert rain shower, Downs' performance seemed to quell the storm, leaving the audience captivated.

Downs expressed her happiness at being in Galicia, especially on the eve of the Community Day and during the Apostle's festivities.
