Lima Metro lines and trains in several regions: the roadworks Keiko Fujimori announced in her National Address

President Keiko Fujimori outlined a comprehensive vision for improving connectivity across Peru during her first National Address, announcing a series of ambitious railway and mass transit projects. These initiatives aim to enhance transportation infrastructure in both the capital, Lima, and various regions throughout the country.

A central focus of the announcement is the expansion of Lima's metro system. Fujimori committed to completing Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro, a project described as the nation's first underground system. Furthermore, her administration plans to execute lines 3, 4, 5, and 6. Line 3 is envisioned as a fully underground route connecting Comas and San Juan de Miraflores, traversing 13 districts and offering integration with existing metro lines. Line 4 aims to link Callao with eastern Lima, spanning 23.6 kilometers and potentially benefiting over two million people. Details regarding the routes, budgets, and timelines for lines 5 and 6 were not specified in the address.

Beyond the capital, Fujimori's plan includes the development of new metro systems in the cities of Arequipa, Piura, and Trujillo. Additionally, the government intends to construct commuter train lines, specifically a Lima-Ica service designed to strengthen the connection between the capital and the southern region, and a Lima-Barranca train to integrate the northern coastal area. These regional projects aim to reduce travel times and stimulate economic activity.

The proposed infrastructure works are part of a broader five-year development plan.
