Lima to close streets for Fiestas Patrias celebrations on July 28-29

Lima's historic center will undergo significant traffic changes as the city prepares for its Fiestas Patrias celebrations on July 28 and 29. The Peruvian National Police (PNP) has announced a comprehensive plan involving diversions and restrictions, beginning early on July 28 and continuing through July 29 around Avenida Brasil, the site of the main official ceremonies.

The primary goal of these measures is to ensure the smooth execution of the Te Deum service, protocol events, and the Grand Civic-Military Parade. Authorities also emphasized the importance of maintaining clear routes for emergency vehicles during the festivities. Drivers and commuters are strongly advised by the PNP to plan their journeys in advance, utilize designated alternative routes, and avoid traveling into restricted zones with private vehicles.

For July 28, traffic will be rerouted in various parts of the historic center, with alternative routes including Avenida Alfonso Ugarte, Avenida Nicolás de Piérola, Avenida Grau, Jirón Huánuco, and Jirón La Libertad. These routes will be monitored by traffic agents and motorcyclists to facilitate circulation.

During July 28, traffic will be restricted at various points in the Historic Center due to the official activities scheduled for the patriotic anniversary.

On July 29, the focus shifts to the Grand Civic-Military Parade along Avenida Brasil. Vehicle access will be restricted on streets within approximately 100 meters of the avenue to ensure clear corridors for evacuations and emergency response. Alternative routes for this day include Avenida Alfonso Ugarte, Avenida Tingo María, Avenida Sucre, Avenida Salaverry, Avenida del Ejército, and Avenida José Faustino Sánchez Carrión.

To guarantee security and traffic flow, the PNP is deploying a substantial force of 10,000 to 13,000 officers in Lima Metropolitana. This contingent includes 920 traffic police for foot patrols and 320 motorcyclists tasked with expediting vehicle movement and addressing any incidents. The police also urged attendees of the ceremonies and parade to organize their travel, adhere to officers' instructions, and remain vigilant, especially with children and the elderly.
