Lithuania is grappling with the aftermath of a powerful weekend storm, as insurance companies report a surge in claims, with at least 5,000 insured events already documented. Andrius Romanovskis, president of the Lithuanian Business Confederation (LVK), stated that the storm's impact extended to businesses, which constitute a substantial number of the reported damages.

"The storm also affected businesses just like residents," Romanovskis told LRT radio. "I myself, as a representative of insurers, know that by this morning, at least 5,000 insured events have been recorded, and more will be recorded. A significant part of them are precisely businesses."

The scale of the storm's disruption is further evidenced by the widespread damage to the power grid. Energy distribution operator ESO reported approximately 9,000 instances of damage to its networks, described by Romanovskis as "enormous numbers." This led to power outages affecting both residents and businesses, forcing some companies to temporarily suspend operations due to prolonged electricity supply interruptions.

In addition to power issues, the storm also disrupted mobile communication services. However, telecom operators reported that most of the network had been restored by Tuesday. The Lithuanian Insurance Association (LDA) had previously estimated insured losses for individuals and businesses to exceed 3 million euros, a figure expected to climb as more claims are processed.
