Lithuania reports seventh day without illegal migrants from Belarus

Lithuania has experienced a lull in illegal border crossings from Belarus, with border guards reporting no unauthorized entries for the seventh consecutive day. This period of calm follows a significant influx of migrants that began in 2021, which Western countries attributed to the Minsk regime.

While Lithuania's border remains quiet, neighboring Latvia reported turning away 95 migrants on Sunday. Polish authorities, however, stated they did not encounter any such individuals on Saturday. These figures reflect ongoing efforts by Eastern European Union nations to manage their borders amid the migration crisis.

Since the crisis began, Lithuanian officials have been vigilant in preventing illegal entries. Last year, over 1,600 individuals were stopped from crossing into Lithuania from Belarus. This year, the number stands at 957. In total, Lithuania estimates it has denied entry to approximately 25,500 illegal migrants since the crisis erupted.
