Former "Wolves" strategist reunites with Kaukėnas for new project

Former "Wolves" coach A. Magro is reportedly taking the helm as the first head coach of the newly established Rome "Basketball" team. The club is slated to make its debut in Italy's top league and the EuroCup competition in the upcoming season.

Legendary Lithuanian basketball player R. Kaukėnas, who previously worked with "Wolves," is contributing to the Rome team's management and player recruitment. Kaukėnas is one of the founders and executives of the new Roman club.

Last season, Magro coached the Naples "Guerri" club but was dismissed in early April with the team in twelfth place in Italy. He previously coached "Wolves" during the 2024-2025 season, leading them to the EuroCup quarterfinals and the Lithuanian league quarterfinals, while reaching the King Mindaugas Cup Final Four but finishing fourth.

The new Rome club project is being developed by Kaukėnas in collaboration with former NBA executive Donnie Nelson and Los Angeles "Lakers" star Luka Dončić. The team was formed after the "Vanoli Cremona" sports license was transferred to the Italian capital this summer. Rome "Basketball" will compete in Group D of the EuroCup, facing Panevėžys "Lietkabelis."
