Lithuanian citizen identified among climbers found dead in Kyrgyzstan mountains

A tragic conclusion has been reached in the search for missing climbers in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, with the confirmation that three bodies have been recovered. Among the deceased is Sergejus Rubcovas, a citizen of Lithuania, and Maksim Polianski from Belarus.

The recovery operation, coordinated by the "Kurumdy" website, reported that identification procedures were completed in Osh on August 27. Officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan participated in the process, confirming the identities of the two climbers.

The bodies were found on August 24 at an altitude of approximately 4,300 meters on a glacier by a team of five rescue climbers. They established a camp and located two bodies by evening, commencing their descent. The search for a third group member was initially underway.

Participating with officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it has been confirmed that the bodies of Maksim Polianski from Belarus and Sergejus Rubcovas from Lithuania were brought down from Kurumdy. Yesterday we wrote that we would not announce names until the procedure was completed. The procedure is finished.

However, the search for the third climber, Nikolaj Sviridov, has yielded no results and has been temporarily halted. Rescuers spent two additional days searching the area where Sviridov was presumed to be, based on the trajectory of falling debris. Despite their efforts, the treacherous conditions, including snow-filled crevasses and the constant threat of avalanches and falling rocks, made further search impossible without endangering the rescue team.

Due to the objective danger, the rescue team's work on the slope was suspended indefinitely. All rescuers were airlifted to Osh. The "Kurumdy" website indicated that the search has not been entirely abandoned and could potentially resume if a credible lead for Sviridov's location emerges.

Visual signs of a body were not found on the slope or in the backpack area. On August 26, the work of the rescue groups on the slope was stopped indefinitely due to the objective danger to themselves: stones are constantly falling in the couloir and avalanches are occurring.
