Lithuanian citizen missing in Nepal floods, officials confirm

A Lithuanian citizen has been officially declared missing in Nepal after a dangerous flood began on Wednesday. The country's institutions are maintaining contact with the honorary consul in Nepal regarding the matter.

Foreign affairs officials confirmed the disappearance, stating the Lithuanian was in a migration building with a group of pilgrims when the floodwaters struck the border area. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with Nepalese authorities, and the Lithuanian honorary consul in Nepal is assisting with the search. Efforts are also underway to contact the missing citizen's relatives.

The devastating flood wave, caused by a glacial collapse according to the U.S. Geological Survey, swept through the Nepal-Tibet border region, obliterating towns and villages. Reports indicate hundreds of fatalities and over a thousand people missing. Other Lithuanian citizens are in Nepal but are not in the affected flood zone.
