President demands review of compensation process after storm

Lithuania's President Gitanas Nausėda has called for a thorough review of the compensation process for citizens affected by a recent weekend storm that left many without electricity. The president expressed strong criticism regarding the information provided by the energy distribution operator concerning power restoration efforts.

Nausėda stated that the operator's updates on restoring electricity supply have been either misleading or inadequate. He believes this lack of clear and accurate information could lead affected individuals to question the validity of their compensation claims. Furthermore, he suggested that such communication failures might erode public trust in the energy provider.

To address these concerns, President Nausėda has formally requested the State Audit Office to conduct an examination of the compensation procedures. This review is intended to ensure that all affected individuals receive the entitlements they deserve following the power outages. The State Audit Office, a governmental body responsible for overseeing public administration and finances, will undertake this task once the electricity supply has been fully reinstated across the affected areas.
