London formally bids to host 2029 World Athletics Championships

London has formally submitted its final bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, a move organizers say could generate more than £400 million ($530 million) in economic and social benefits.

We’re delighted that ​we have reached agreement with the London Stadium and West ​Ham United for the use of the London Stadium.

Athletic Ventures (AV), a joint venture comprising UK Athletics, London Marathon Events, and the Great Run Company, delivered the bid documents to World Athletics. The proposal centers on utilizing the London Stadium, a venue with a history of hosting major international events, including the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2017 World Athletics Championships.

UK Athletics CEO Jack Buckner highlighted the bid as a long-term component of Britain’s Olympic legacy plans. He expressed delight at reaching an agreement with the London Stadium and West Ham United for the venue's use. Great Run Company CEO Paul Foster described London's bid as "outstanding," pointing to the city's proven track record with major athletics events like the Olympics, World Championships, London Marathon, and Diamond League meetings.
