LRT Jabodebek offers near-free fares for Indonesia's 81st Independence Day

To celebrate Indonesia's 81st Independence Day, the Jabodebek Light Rail Transit (LRT) is offering a special promotional fare of just Rp8 (approximately $0.0005 USD) for all rides on August 17, 2026. This initiative aims to allow the public to experience the convenience of public transportation at a minimal cost while joining in the national festivities.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), the operator of LRT Jabodebek, announced the promotion as a way to encourage more people to utilize public transport and to mark the significant national milestone. Suryawan Putra Hia, Executive Vice President of LRT Jabodebek, stated that the Rp8 fare is intended to invite the public to use public transportation and make their journeys part of the Independence Day celebrations.

This special fare comes as LRT Jabodebek experiences a surge in ridership. During the first half of 2026, the service recorded 16,018,911 passengers, a 23% increase compared to the same period last year. This growing popularity highlights the increasing reliance on public transport for daily commutes and activities in the Jabodebek region.

In addition to the discounted fares, LRT Jabodebek stations and trains will be adorned with red and white decorations, reflecting the national colors and the spirit of independence. These visual elements are part of an effort to create a festive atmosphere for passengers, making their commute a more engaging and celebratory experience during the holiday period. Suryawan emphasized that the momentum of independence is an opportunity to strengthen togetherness, and LRT Jabodebek aims to provide a safe, comfortable, and celebratory travel experience.
