Lula's policies revived auto sector, closed factories reopened: Brazil VP

Brazil's Vice President Geraldo Alckmin asserted that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's industrial policies have successfully revitalized the automotive sector, drawing a sharp contrast with the previous administration. Speaking at a campaign event in São Bernardo do Campo, Alckmin, who also serves as Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services, pointed to specific factory reopenings as evidence.

"In the past government, just to cite the automotive industry, Mercedes-Benz closed in Iracemápolis, Ford in Bahia, and Troller in Ceará. With President Lula, where Mercedes was, today GWM is producing vehicles; where Ford was, today BYD is there," Alckmin declared. These statements were made during the launch of Lula's presidential campaign for re-election.

Alckmin further emphasized the administration's economic achievements, including increased exports and the finalization of trade agreements. He specifically mentioned the Mercosur agreements with Singapore and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), as well as the broader treaty with the European Union. He argued that Lula's re-election would strengthen democracy and expand upon the government's successes.

According to Alckmin, Lula's current term has seen growth in employment, income, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and investments in key areas such as education, health, and environmental protection. He used football metaphors, referencing Lula's history as a union leader, to frame the campaign, stating, "Here, democracy scores the goal."
