Madiun distributes 3,000 flags to celebrate Indonesia's Independence Day

The Madiun City government in East Java is actively promoting national pride by distributing 3,000 free "Merah Putih" (Red and White) flags to residents. This initiative is part of the celebrations for Indonesia's 81st Independence Day. Acting Mayor F Bagus Panuntun symbolically handed out the flags during a work meeting at the City Hall on Monday. "We have allocated 3,000 Merah Putih flags. They will be distributed down to the neighborhood level," Panuntun stated. He emphasized that the flag distribution is a crucial part of the independence celebrations, expressing hope that the flags will fly throughout Madiun, known as "Kota Pendekar" (City of Warriors). Beyond just festive decoration, the program aims to strengthen nationalism and patriotism, particularly among the younger generation. In addition to the flag distribution, Panuntun urged swift progress on several National Strategic Projects (PSN) within Madiun. These projects include a Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KKMP), and the People's School (SR). "All three are continuing to progress in Madiun City," Panuntun confirmed. He highlighted the challenges in securing land for these projects, citing the example of the People's School, which has required multiple location changes. The city is actively seeking alternative sites, such as an asset on Jalan Tirta Raya, previously considered for a different project. The government hopes the widespread display of the national flag throughout August will boost the community's nationalistic spirit.
