Magyar meets Pasztor: Vows support for Vojvodina Hungarians, pledges audit of motherland funding

N1 Serbia reports on a significant meeting between Hungary's prospective Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Balint Pasztor, the head of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM). Magyar, speaking from Budapest, assured that Hungarians residing in Serbia's Vojvodina region can rely on continued support from Hungary. He emphasized that under a TISZA government, existing rights for the Hungarian minority would be preserved, with a primary focus on improving their standing and prosperity within Serbia. This commitment signals a continuation of Budapest's engagement with its diaspora. However, Magyar also delivered a firm message regarding accountability, demanding fundamental changes in the transparency and efficiency of Hungarian state funding allocated to Vojvodina's Hungarian media. He specifically criticized the perceived bias of Vojvodina's Pannon RTV, controlled by the SVM, suggesting it serves as a direct channel for Fidesz propaganda and fails to adequately represent Magyar's own TISZA party. Magyar's intention to audit the past decade of Hungarian support and investigate electoral abuses highlights a desire for reform and a more direct, less politically influenced relationship with the Hungarian community in Serbia. His planned summer visit to Vojvodina underscores the importance he places on this constituency.
