Major Milestone Reached: All Foundations Installed for UK's East Anglia THREE Windfarm

A significant engineering milestone has been achieved at the East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm, with the completion of all 95 foundation installations. Masdar, Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company, and ScottishPower Renewables have successfully placed the massive monopiles off the coast of Suffolk, marking a crucial step towards the project's operational phase.

These monopiles, weighing between 1,200 and 1,800 tonnes and standing up to 84 meters tall, represent the largest foundations of their kind to be installed from a jack-up vessel in European waters. The installation of the corresponding 95 transition pieces, each 20 meters high and weighing over 400 tonnes, has also been finalized, paving the way for the next stage of construction.

With turbine installation already underway, the £4 billion East Anglia THREE project is on track to become fully operational by the end of 2026. Once completed, it will generate 1.4 gigawatts of homegrown clean power, significantly contributing to the UK's renewable energy targets. Husain Al Meer, Masdar's Executive Director for Global Offshore Wind and the UK, hailed the foundation installation as a major achievement for the project.
