Makinde calls for unity to guarantee Oyo’s continued development

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has issued a strong call for unity among his political allies and stakeholders, stressing that cohesion is paramount to sustaining the developmental trajectory of the state beyond 2027. Speaking at a meeting with political stakeholders in Ibadan, Makinde articulated his vision for continued progress, framing it as a collective achievement rather than a singular success.

It has been a tough period for us, politically. When the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, was talking, he said that I am the best governor, but I will say no. It is the team.

The governor directly addressed the potential for internal rivalries to derail the administration's agenda. He highlighted that with 51 elective positions available in the upcoming general elections, only a fraction of aspirants can attain office. Therefore, he urged aspirants and party leaders to prioritize the broader goal of good governance over personal ambitions, emphasizing that any elected official would require the team's unified support to succeed.

For me, there must not be any division, so that the state people can reap further the benefits of this team. Only one person can occupy a position at any one time. Apart from the positions at the local government levels, the elective positions for the 2027 general elections are 51. That means 51 people out of a population of about 10 million.

Makinde's message underscored the importance of peacebuilding and vigilance against misinformation. He credited the administration's successes, including the peaceful conduct of party congresses and candidate selections over the past seven years, to the collective efforts of his team. This emphasis on unity and shared responsibility is a hallmark of Makinde's political communication, aiming to foster a sense of common purpose.
