Malaysia Customs Seizes 1,240 Sex Toys Smuggled from China

Malaysian customs authorities have intercepted a significant attempt to smuggle a large quantity of sex toys into the country. In May, officers at the North Free Zone in Port Klang discovered 1,240 items, with an estimated value of RM52,500, concealed within a shipping container originating from China.

Noraidah Ishak, Director of Selangor Customs, revealed that the container was flagged for inspection due to suspicious declarations. Instead of the declared goods like chairs, bags, drink containers, and underwear, the inspection uncovered thousands of various sex toys. These items were seized for further investigation and action.

The container arrived at Port Klang between May 15 and 19. This marks the first recorded seizure of such items in Selangor this year, and authorities suspect they were intended for the local market. The investigation is proceeding under sections of the Customs Act 1967 concerning the import of prohibited goods and false declarations.

In a separate operation at the same port on May 4, the Customs Department also seized 1,578.43 liters of liquor, valued at approximately RM409,917 including taxes. The alcoholic beverages, of various brands, were found hidden in a container along with used spare parts. This shipment had arrived from an Asian country on April 27.

The inspection found various types of goods declared as chairs, bags, drink containers, and underwear. However, thousands of various types of 'sex toys' were also found inside the container and seized for further action.
