Malaysia Election Commission Pilots Digital Voter Attendance System in Negeri Sembilan

The Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR) is introducing a pilot project for an Optical Character Recognition-Voter Attendance (OCR-VA) system during the Negeri Sembilan state election.

This innovative system is designed to digitally capture voter attendance, a move aimed at enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of the electoral process. By employing OCR technology, the SPR intends to mitigate errors such as polling station staff mistakenly marking the wrong names on voter lists.

SPR Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun confirmed the implementation of this pilot project. He explained that the OCR-VA system will record voter presence digitally, thereby reducing the potential for human error that can occur during manual recording.

The introduction of this technology in Negeri Sembilan marks a significant step towards modernizing Malaysia's election management. The commission hopes that this trial will pave the way for wider adoption of the system in future elections, ensuring a more streamlined and error-free voting experience for all.
