BN-PN form Negeri Sembilan state government

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition has been ousted from power in Negeri Sembilan, concluding two consecutive terms as the state government. Unofficial results indicate that Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN), who formed an understanding for the state elections, have secured a majority to form the new state government.

As of 8:30 PM, BN and PN collectively won more than 20 seats in the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly. Specifically, BN secured victories in 18 constituencies, while PN won in seven, surpassing the simple majority required to govern the state out of the 36 seats contested. In contrast, PH managed to win only 11 seats.

The election results also brought surprising defeats for several prominent PH leaders. Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, the Chairman of PH Negeri Sembilan and the incumbent Menteri Besar, lost his bid in the Linggi state seat. Anthony Loke Siew Fook, the Secretary-General of DAP and the incumbent for the Chennah state seat, also suffered a loss.

Meanwhile, key BN leaders retained their strongholds. Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Chairman of BN Negeri Sembilan, won in Rantau, and Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, Chairman of the Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Body, secured victory in Pertang. Bersatu, a component of PN, lost in all 24 state seats it contested, including DUN Labu, where incumbent Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker was defeated by BN candidate Siti Nur Umaira Hasim.

The Negeri Sembilan state election saw 103 candidates vying for the 36 DUN seats. Voter turnout was reported at 65.38% by 4 PM, with several constituencies like Kota, Seri Menanti, and Labu recording the highest turnout at 70.9%. This turnout is higher than the 61.89% recorded during the same period in the previous state election.
