Malaysian National Arrested in Thailand with 166kg of Methamphetamine

Thai police have arrested a 20-year-old Malaysian national in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, seizing approximately 166 kilograms of methamphetamine. The arrest occurred on Saturday in the Mukim Hua Hin area, following a police operation that tracked a suspect believed to be transporting a significant quantity of drugs.

Acting on information, a team of officers tracked the car suspected of carrying a large amount of drugs from this district to be delivered to southern provinces, including Malaysia.

The suspect, identified as Julian Ong Hwei Shen, was apprehended around 12:30 a.m. while driving a luxury car. According to Hua Hin Police Station Superintendent Colonel Kampanat Nawichai, police acted on intelligence and pursued the vehicle, which was allegedly moving drugs from the district towards southern provinces, including Malaysia.

During the pursuit, the suspect attempted to evade the police but was eventually stopped in front of a convenience store in Mukim Hua Hin. A subsequent search of the car revealed three locked suitcases. The suspect initially claimed the bags were not his and that he did not know the codes to open them.

Authorities opened the suitcases in the suspect's presence, uncovering a large quantity of the Class 1 narcotic, methamphetamine. Colonel Kampanat stated that the suspect admitted to being en route to southern Thailand with the intention of smuggling the drugs into Malaysia. The suspect and the seized drugs were handed over to the Hua Hin Police Station for legal proceedings.
