Man Arrested for 7 Thefts, Possessing Drugs; Court Orders Detention

Kaohsiung police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with seven theft incidents and drug possession, following a month-long crime spree across four districts. The suspect, identified by the surname Chen, was apprehended by Xin Jia Police Station chief Huang Meng-shu during a patrol.

During the arrest, Chen was found to be in possession of a single ecstasy tablet weighing 6.3 grams, which tested positive. He also had multiple stolen identification cards and credit cards in his wallet. Chen initially denied the thefts, claiming the documents belonged to a friend.

However, police investigations, aided by surveillance footage and victim testimonies, linked Chen to seven burglaries between July 5 and August 5 in the Linyuan, Daliao, Gushan, and Fengshan districts. The total value of stolen goods, including cash, electronics, and personal documents, is estimated at NT$100,000. A court has ordered Chen's detention as the investigation expands to trace the whereabouts of the stolen items.
