Man arrested for stealing from school canteen in Fernando de la Mora

Police in Fernando de la Mora, Paraguay, have arrested a 27-year-old man identified as the primary suspect in a theft from a local school's canteen. The man, who has prior criminal convictions, was apprehended following a police operation initiated after the school's director reported the incident and provided security camera footage.

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly stole merchandise worth around 1 million Paraguayan guaraníes from the Gregoria Molinas de Saldívar school. The crucial evidence came from surveillance cameras, which allowed the director to identify the perpetrator. When police arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to evade capture, leading to a brief foot pursuit before he was detained.

The arrested individual, identified as Walter Luis Osvaldo Ovelar Núñez, has a history of offenses, including previous charges for theft and violations of drug laws. Police reported that the stolen goods have not been recovered, as they are believed to have been quickly sold off. The case has been handed over to the prosecutor's office for further investigation into the disposal of the stolen items.
