Man Arrested on Bus After Alleged Assault and Beer-Spilling Incident

Police were called to assist a bus driver on Hverfisgata after a passenger became unruly, reportedly under the influence of alcohol. The man allegedly tried to punch one passenger and pour beer over another. When officers arrived, they arrested the individual. A search revealed suspected narcotics in small zip-lock bags, leading to his detention in a holding cell.

This incident was one of many handled by the capital region's police between 5 p.m. yesterday and 5 a.m. this morning. In a separate case, police responded to a landlord's request for help with a problematic tenant. Upon investigation, the tenant was found asleep and the landlord sought assistance for the tenant to receive medical help for alcohol abuse.

Traffic incidents also occupied police attention. One driver, pursued for failing to stop, eventually pulled over at the police station. He was found to have exceeded the speed limit and run multiple red lights. A drug test on his saliva came back positive, and he was arrested and taken to the station.

Another driver was stopped in Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær for traveling at 157 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. This driver was immediately stripped of their license and faces a significant fine. Police in Kópavogur and Breiðholt stopped a foreign national who was driving without a license, which had been revoked in their home country. A drug test was also positive for this individual, leading to their arrest and a blood sample collection.

Further traffic violations included a driver still using studded tires and another on a scooter engaging in reckless driving, including driving on the wrong side of the road and on sidewalks. Police also responded to a reported burglary in progress at a business in Kópavogur, but the suspects had already fled by the time officers arrived.
