Man charged with assault for abusing girlfriend's daughter in Vietnam

Authorities in Dong Nai city, Vietnam, have initiated legal proceedings against a man accused of severely abusing his girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter. Duong Dai Long, 29, faces charges of assault after confessing to the abuse, which reportedly stemmed from the child's academic performance.

According to police reports, Long, who had been living with the child and her mother since 2021, began physically punishing the girl when her tutor reported poor grades. Despite the child's pleas and tears, Long allegedly continued to use physical force. Disturbingly, the child's mother was reportedly present during some of these incidents but did not intervene to protect her daughter.

The abuse came to light when the child managed to borrow a phone and call her uncle, L.D.T., 36, for help on July 30. The uncle immediately went to the child's aid and subsequently reported the matter to the Bình Phước ward police. The child, identified as P.G.K.L., was found to have sustained visible injuries, including bruises on her arms and legs.

The child's biological father, P.M.T., expressed his anguish upon seeing camera footage of the abuse. He confirmed that his daughter received medical attention and is now staying with her maternal and paternal grandparents. However, she remains traumatized and suffers from panic attacks when recalling the abuse. Both sides of the family are reportedly working to comfort and support her.
