Man charged with murder of former MP Ann Widdecombe

A man has been charged with the murder of former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe, the Crown Prosecution Service announced.

We have decided to prosecute Joshua Kerry for murder following a police investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe in Haytor, Dartmoor.

Joshua Kerry, 28, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, faces a murder charge in connection with the death of the 78-year-old politician. Widdecombe was found dead at her home in Haytor, Dartmoor, on Thursday, July 9, after sustaining serious injuries. Kerry was initially arrested on suspicion of murder on July 11, two days after the discovery of Widdecombe's body.

Further complicating the investigation, Kerry was additionally arrested on July 13 on suspicion of the commission, preparation, or instigation of acts of terrorism. Kerry is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Widdecombe, a prominent figure in British politics, served as a Conservative MP from 1987, later became an MEP, and was a spokesperson for Reform UK.
