Man. City to Maintain Guardiola's DNA Under New Manager Maresca

New Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca is committed to preserving the club's established identity, aiming to continue the attacking, possession-based football philosophy championed by his predecessor, Pep Guardiola. Maresca, appointed last month, stated that the team's core principles of aggressive play, ball control, and dominance will remain central as he embarks on a new era at the Etihad Stadium.

Maresca, who served as Guardiola's assistant during the 2022-23 season, recognizes the immense challenge of stepping into the shoes of one of the sport's most revered coaches. However, he expressed confidence that the solid groundwork laid by Guardiola will facilitate a seamless transition. "I consider Pep (Guardiola) the best coach in the world for the last 20 to 25 years. It's a big challenge, but at the same time, an honor for me to be here," Maresca said.

He pointed to Manchester City's stable management structure, with only three managers in 17 years, as a key factor in his belief that the club can sustain its success. Maresca emphasized that the culture and structure, dating back to the era of Roberto Mancini, enable City to compete at the highest level without relying solely on any single individual. "The club has only had three managers in 17 years, and that's not common in modern football. That's why I'm confident we can continue what has been built for so long," he added.

Maresca also addressed the immediate future, confirming that Spanish midfielder Rodri will miss the beginning of the season. Rodri is scheduled for back surgery due to an injury sustained after the 2026 World Cup. Despite speculation linking the influential player with a move away, Maresca asserted that Rodri is an indispensable part of his plans. "Rodri is one of the best players in the world, so speculation like this is normal. He will have surgery on Monday, then rest, and I am confident he will return to us stronger," Maresca stated.
