Man dies in Montevideo house fire; separate blaze hits abandoned building

A fatal fire in Montevideo's Unidad Casavalle neighborhood claimed a man's life on Friday. Police and firefighters responded to a call about a blaze at a home on Senda 8 and Gustavo Volpe streets. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered the body of a man inside the structure. Both police and fire departments are conducting an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a separate event, firefighters battled a significant fire in an abandoned commercial building in the Malvín neighborhood on Thursday night. The blaze, which occurred at a property on Hipólito Yrigoyen and Avenida Italia, was reported around 9:48 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the entire structure engulfed in flames. The building, approximately 20 meters wide and 10 meters deep, contained a large amount of debris and flammable materials, fueling the fire.

Crews worked quickly to extinguish the structural fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent homes. The operation included efforts to remove burnt material and cool the exterior walls. No injuries were reported in the Malvín incident.
