Man holding mother hostage in Fatih apprehended by special operations police

A tense situation in Istanbul's Fatih district concluded with the apprehension of a suspect who had held his mother hostage. Police were alerted late last night to reports of an individual holding his mother captive and causing self-harm outside their apartment building in Ayvansaray.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found the suspect, identified as B.E. (27), had taken his mother, Ç.E., hostage and was inflicting injuries upon himself. Initial attempts at negotiation failed as the suspect did not respond to police efforts to de-escalate the situation.

Special operations police were deployed to the scene and successfully entered the apartment to apprehend the suspect. B.E. was subsequently transported to Istanbul Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital for medical treatment due to his self-inflicted wounds. His mother, reported to be in good health, was taken to a police station to provide her statement.
