Man Pleads Guilty to Outraging Modesty in Factory Storeroom

A 24-year-old man has pleaded guilty at the Machang Magistrate's Court to outraging the modesty of a woman. Muhammad Zamri Abdullah, a factory worker, admitted to using criminal force against a 22-year-old woman inside a storeroom at a food and beverage distribution factory.

The alleged incident took place on August 3 near Kuala Krai. The charge against Muhammad Zamri was brought under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction. The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Hazim Aqiffullah Mohd. Amran, while the defense was represented by Norfaraliana Othman from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

During the proceedings, the prosecution requested bail of RM7,000 with one surety. The defense lawyer appealed for a lower bail amount, citing Muhammad Zamri's monthly income of RM1,700 and his responsibility to support his elderly parents and a young child. The court ultimately set bail at RM5,000 with one surety. Additional conditions were imposed, prohibiting the accused or his agents from approaching, contacting, or harassing the victim or any prosecution witnesses until the case concludes. The court also warned that failure to comply with these conditions could lead to the bail being increased or revoked. The next court date for sentencing has been set for August 11.
