A stark reminder of the scams that prey on fervent fan bases has emerged with the sentencing of a 38-year-old man to three years in prison for orchestrating a sophisticated ticket fraud scheme. The individual, identified only by his surname Yoo, masterfully exploited the immense popularity of artists such as Lim Young-woong and Psy, convincing 28 victims to part with a total of approximately 80 million won (around $58,000 USD) under the guise of selling coveted concert tickets.

Operating between November 2024 and May 2025, Yoo impersonated officials from event and performance planning companies. His modus operandi involved posting enticing messages online, such as "Limited tickets for Lim Young-woong available. Send money and your name, date of birth, and phone number." This tactic, coupled with further deceit involving tickets for the musical 'Memphis' and Psy's concerts between April and June 2025, highlights a calculated and persistent pattern of deception.

He had received a one-year and four-month prison term for fraud in March 2024, only to be released on parole in September of the same year.
