Manuel González sets new absolute record in second free practice session

Spanish rider Manuel 'Manugas' González has continued his dominant form in the Moto2 World Championship by setting a blistering new lap record during the second free practice session for the Aragon Grand Prix. Competing at the Motorland circuit in Alcañiz, González clocked a time of 1:49.597, shattering the previous benchmark.

The intense competition was evident as González's closest championship rival, fellow Spaniard Daniel Muñoz, also broke the existing record just moments before. Muñoz recorded a time of 1:49.783, which itself was faster than the record set the previous Friday by Iván Ortolá. Adding to the high-speed drama, Izan Guevara, second in the championship and set to move to MotoGP next season, also posted a time under the old record, lapping at 1:49.602, just five thousandths of a second behind González.

The session was not without incident, as Spanish rider Daniel Holgado experienced a crash in turn seven. Although he was able to walk away from the incident, his Kalex bike sustained significant damage, potentially impacting his performance in the upcoming qualifying session.

Earlier in the practice, Alonso López had initially set the pace, but the focus quickly shifted as Muñoz and then González consistently lowered the times. The rapid succession of record-breaking laps highlights the exceptional pace and fierce rivalry at the top of the Moto2 category.
