Marcin Przydacz: Permanent US Bases in Poland Are Within Reach. The Government Must Act

Permanent US bases in Poland are “within reach,” according to Marcin Przydacz, a minister in the Chancellery of the President. But he says the government must cooperate with the presidential centre if Poland wants to secure a larger and more permanent American military presence.

“If the Polish government cooperates here with the presidential centre, we will be on the right path to not only maintain the presence of US troops, but expand it and change its status,” Przydacz said.

His comments came as the government signalled that Russia could be preparing further escalation against NATO. Przydacz said the presidential centre also sees a growing risk. Poland, he noted, faces various threats, including hybrid threats, because it borders war-torn Ukraine, an aggressive Russia and Belarus.

He said Poland could not rule out a scenario in which Russia sought to escalate tensions and then de-escalate them, in line with what he described as its established policy. Further provocations remain possible, he said, urging close attention to developments in the airspace, along Poland’s borders and in the Baltic Sea.
