Maxima Store Closes After Heavy Storm Causes Severe Flooding in Vilnius

A "Maxima" supermarket in Vilnius has temporarily suspended operations after a powerful storm caused significant flooding within its premises. The store, located at Ozo g. 25, was forced to close its doors to customers due to safety concerns.

According to a company statement, heavy rainfall led to water infiltrating the store's ventilation system, which subsequently leaked into the sales hall. Assessing the damage and prioritizing the safety of both staff and shoppers, management decided to halt all activities. Cleaning and repair work are currently underway, with the store expected to reopen on Monday morning at 8 a.m.

While this particular "Maxima" location is closed, other branches in Vilnius, including those on Mindaugo g., Medeinos g., Savanorių pr., Žirmūnų g., and Gilužio g., also reported flooding. However, these stores have continued to operate normally.

The storm's impact was widely visible across Vilnius, with numerous streets submerged and underground parking lots of apartment buildings flooded. Social media buzzed with images and videos of the aftermath, including a striking clip of a man riding a jet ski down a rain-inundated street.
