Mazatlán Rocked by Jewelry Heist and Shootings, One Dead

Mazatlán experienced a wave of violence as a jewelry store in the historic center was looted and two separate shootings left one man dead and another injured. The brazen robbery occurred near the iconic Plaza Machado, a popular tourist spot, where a perpetrator used a wooden club to break the store's glass display cases before escaping on a motorcycle with gold items.

Despite the presence of national and foreign tourists and regular patrols by federal forces, the suspect managed to flee the scene. Authorities were later notified of the death of Jesús Alberto “N,” 35, who had been admitted to a Mazatlán hospital on Sunday with multiple gunshot wounds. He was attacked in the Santa Elena neighborhood.

In another incident, security forces responded to reports of a shooting in the Sánchez Celis neighborhood. They found Jesús “N,” 28, on the ground with gunshot injuries. Witnesses reported that two individuals on a motorcycle approached him, fired their weapons, and fled. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.
